Welcome from Principal Gifford
Welcome to Bigelow High School. We are the proud home to almost 300 7th-12th grade students and an incredible staff. I hope that the information on our website will provide you with a quick overview of our school and what personalized opportunities we offer our students and parents.
The staff and I are here to continue building on the proven success that our district has accomplished. Our district values the whole student, and we will continue to help mold the minds of our young men and women. We will provide a safe and caring environment in which we will motivate students to find their own path. As the principal, I am challenged with making school a place that places value on education while providing students with experiences that will last a lifetime. We will work towards doing just that by setting high expectations and doing our best to get each student involved in school activities. These situations allow students to develop character and work ethic with an emphasis on making good decisions.
Along with the teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established by BHS by building strong relationships with parents, students, and community. I believe that students are successful when given a safe and nurturing school environment that includes high expectations, excellent instruction, consistent discipline, and a caring atmosphere. I will do my best to provide each student with this type of school experience. In return, I will ask students to make good choices and to show respect for themselves and others.
As your Principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors - teachers, students and parents - are excited to be here! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. I want this place to bring smiles to their faces throughout the day.

Jeff Gifford
Bigelow High Principal
MAT, University of Central Arkansas
Mr. Gifford is beginning his 18th year in education. He has education experience with students of all ages from Pre-K to seniors. Mr. Gifford grew up in Van Buren, Arkansas and graduated high school in 1995. He continued his education at Westark Community College in Fort Smith, AR. After 2 years, he transferred to the University of Central Arkansas where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Business. He then sold insurance for a couple of years before getting into teaching. He received his MAT from the University of Arkansas- Monticello. He has taught in River Valley Christian, Fort Smith, Van Buren, Conway, and East End School Districts. He has taught mathematics in many different subjects, taught and was lead teacher/coordinator of ALE programs while developing the CAAC credit recovery program for Conway. Mr. Gifford has also coached basketball, baseball, football, track, volleyball, and tennis. He has received his Administrative Licensure through the University of Central Arkansas while working towards his EdS in Educational Leadership.
